What a trip actually looks like

Meet at the slipway

Twenty minutes before the departure time, at the bottom of Bearskin Neck. Wear something you do not mind getting wet.

Kit and a briefing

Boat, paddle, buoyancy aid and a dry bag for your phone. The briefing covers the stroke, the signals and what we do if someone goes in.

On the water

Two guides, front and back, the whole way. We go at the pace of the slowest paddler and nobody is ever left behind the sweep.

A landing

Every trip lands somewhere you cannot walk to. On the sunset trip that is the oyster beds, with the grower there to talk you through it.

Back by the posted time

We are off the water when we said we would be. If the forecast says otherwise we cancel the day before and refund in full.

Before you book a place

Do I need to have kayaked before?
Not for the sunrise paddle — most people on it are first-timers. The lighthouse tour is three and a half hours and assumes you have paddled at least once.
How many places are left?
The number on each trip above is live. When a departure fills it stops being selectable, so you can never book a place that does not exist.
Can I book the whole boat?
The sunset trip can be taken privately for a flat price — pick "private hire" on that trip. It occupies all ten places, so it is worth booking early.
What if the weather turns?
We make the call the evening before and refund in full if we cancel. We would rather lose the booking than take a group out in the wrong conditions.
When do I pay?
On the beach, before we launch. Booking online holds your place and costs nothing up front.

From people who came out with us

★★★★★

Booked three places on the sunrise trip the night before. Two guides for six of us and I have never felt out of my depth once.

We took the whole sunset boat for my mother’s sixtieth. Oysters on a sandbar as the sun went down — she has not stopped talking about it.

They cancelled on us for wind and refunded before I had even asked. Came back a fortnight later in perfect conditions.
